This website is a resource for journalists, academics, researchers and interested members of the public. It de-bunks the myths of crack which began in the 1980s.

The information provided here is a balanced account of the effects of crack cocaine, its harms and misperceptions, the media's role in sesationalizing the 'crack baby' myth, and the impact of these myths on the criminal justice system. By peering into the phenomenon of the ‘crack myth’, we find the causes behind the growth of the crack baby myth and the reasons for its pervasiveness.

The children of crack-smoking women have too often been written off as a ‘lost generation’. These pages try to remove the damaging stigma of the ‘crack baby’ label and to reveal the political reasons behind the perpetuation of the myth.

This website is supported by the Criminal Justice Policy Foundation, a non-profit educational organization, that helps educate the nation about the problems of the criminal justice system.
